AT&T and SunEdison Partner for San Diego Solar Installation

AT&T has enlisted SunEdison for adding 2 MW capacity of solar energy by 2011 in California. Six solar installations are to be activated in California, the first of which is San Diego’s Trade Street site.

SunEdison will be activating a novel rooftop solar installation in San Diego for AT&T. Apart from this, five other installations are to come up in California by Q2 of 2011. The overall solar capacity of all the six sites put together will be 2 MW, approximately.

The San Diego solar power installation is a rooftop-mounted PV system that will have the capacity to generate 420,000 kWh of solar energy during the first year of operations. Over 20 years, this solar system would be generating in excess of 7.7 million kWh of power, sufficient for powering in excess of 720 homes in the U.S. for one year.

In terms of environmental attributes, the solar installation would help in avoiding CO2 to the extent of over 8 million pounds during the initial 20-year period and will help businesses and residents to embrace clean energy. This program has been made possible through a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) between AT&T and SunEdison. Upon completion and activation, the six solar systems would be generating more than 3.2 million kWh of clean energy.
