Cypress Semiconductor Corp. and SunPower Corporation have jointly donated $1.1 million to the Second Harvest Food Bank located in the San Mateo and the Santa Clara counties.
This donation has been used for the purchase of a rooftop solar system of SunPower. The 322-kW solar system will have its installation at the headquarters of Second Harvest Food Bank at San Jose, California.
Over its 25-year lifetime, this solar system is expected to provide a savings of about $3 million, which would translate to around six million meals that would become available for the local communities. This rooftop solar system donated quite generously by SunPower and Cypress Semiconductor would help Second Harvest Food Bank in meeting the requirements of the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties.
This 322-kW solar system has been placed on a rooftop spanning an area of 1.4 acres and has been enabled with the SunPower T5 Solar Roof Tile and the SunPower T10 Solar Roof Tile. These two tiles utilize the high-efficiency solar panels of SunPower and are tilted at an angle of 5 degrees and 10 degrees respectively, for the purpose of increased energy capture. The solar panel, the roof mounting system and the frame, all are integrated as a single unit for reducing costs as well as installation time. Upon completion in September, this solar system is anticipated to provide enough energy for meeting in excess of 50% of the electrical needs of Second Harvest Food Bank.
