Tecnalia Joins Sunglass Project for Optimum Usage of Solar Energy

In collaboration with the University of Cantabria, the Construction Unit of Tecnalia has participated in a Sunglass project that aims at developing a novel building product that optimizes the usage of solar energy.

This project involves a glass that increases the efficiency levels of PV solar systems in such a way so as to boost the usage of renewable power in the construction industry.

The Sunglass project has been designed for increasing the performance efficiency of the existing solar panels by approximately 15%. Photovoltaic technology has the potential of making significant contributions towards sustainable development for the building industry.

Research conducted on this project thus far has focused on altering the semiconductor material for making use of the solar spectrum’s greater part. Nevertheless, this project puts forth an alternative approach that involves the phenomenon called “conversion of frequencies”, that is based upon the absorption of photons in certain frequencies as well as emitting another frequency range.
