Kikkoman Foods, Inc., a leading soy sauce producing company in USA, has unveiled its plans to install a 106.6 kW DC photovoltaic system at its manufacturing facility located in Folsom California.
The planned system while significantly reducing its dependence on diesel power to generate electricity, will also allow the company to sell extra power produced to the grid when it is not using the power for its production. The company opted to install solar energy system at their production facility in Folsom due to longer sunny days and good incentives offered by the Californian government under the California Solar Initiative Program and the Federal Tax Credit.
The company has chosen to install a total number of 576,185 W solar modules manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric for their high energy output in normal working conditions and 100% lead-free soldering during the manufacture. The company is planning to install the solar system over the existing parking carport that serves the employees and visitors. The planned installation is projected to produce around 150,000 kWh of power per year thus saving on money spent for fossil fuel electricity and preventing the release of greenhouse gas emission to that extent.
The company in addition to creating green energy for its production facility has also implemented a recycling feature for all its production processes and has taken steps to improve energy efficiency and water management. The company has earlier received awards for its waste reduction programs and environmental protection activities from the state government and other agencies in the state.
