Carmanah Technologies Corporation, a commercial PV projects installation company, has announced the completion of its 38 kW solar power installations for the newly built Dr. David Suzuki Public School managed by Greater Essex County District School Board at Windsor Ontario.
The newly constructed 58,000 square foot public school also incorporates an environment friendly design in its construction. The inclusion of this grid connected solar power system operates in support of the schools claim for LEED (Leadership in Environmental Engineering and Design) Platinum-level certification, which is considered to be the top certification for environment friendly building design.
The new solar system installed by Carmanah will produce enough power to meet 10% of the energy requirement of the school. The school is planning to utilize the system as a resource that delivers electric power while continuing to preserve the environment as well as serving as a tool for teaching 500 plus students about green solar technology. The school is planning to include the green technologies incorporated in the construction of the school in the student’s academia and culture by installing information kiosks at appropriate places in the building as well as by providing such information through its website. Giuliana Hinchliffe, Engineering, Facility Services Department’s coordinator of the school said that the school believes it is as important to teach the students about the use of alternative energy sources as well the need to inform them about energy conservation.
Ted Lattimore, CEO of Carmnah said that the solar PV installation generated revenue and will allow the students as well as the public to monitor the performance of the solar system by utilizing its interactive website.
