The Federal Trade Commission estimates that as many as nine million Americans have their identities stolen each year. According to EPA estimates, Secure Eco Shred efforts last year saved 19,000 trees, 2,208 barrels of oil, 3,534 cubic yards of landfill space, 66,259 pounds of air pollution, 7.7 million gallons of water and 4.5 million kilowatt hours of electricity.
"In 2007, we recycled over 2.2 million pounds of paper resulting in a significant positive impact to our environment," said Kalapos. As stewards of the environment, Kalapos also said they are currently working with the alderman and local chambers of commerce to organize community shreds related to upcoming Earth Day activities.
