Middleton Geothermal Services provides testing services for geothermal project. The two geothermal testing services, offered by the company, are thermal conductivity testing, and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pressure testing. The thermal conductivity testing is conducted to measure the ability of a specific site to transfer heat. The thermal conductivity testing is essential in commercial geothermal projects. A commercial geothermal application may require large amount of heat transfer through the ground heat exchanger. The size of the heat exchanger is determined based on its efficiency.
Middleton Geothermal Services has conducted more than 130 thermal conductivity tests in the North East and Midwest United States. The company has collaboration with Ewbank & Associates, a developer of conductivity testing, for performing thermal conductivity tests. The HDPE pressure testing is undertaken prior to the commissioning of ground heat exchanger unit. The pressure testing is conducted to ensure that small leaks are not present and also to ensure if all joints have been fused properly.
Middleton Geothermal Services conducts HDPE pressure testing using ASTM test procedure with the help of test units from the affiliate, Ewbank & Associates. As the HDPE involves plastic, the pressure testing can have an impact due to ambient temperature, pressure, and test duration. The HDPE pressure test procedure of the affiliate company offers a recorded comparison of pipe specifications. This helps to prove the integrity of ground heat exchanger.
