Cork City in Ireland is exploring the possibility of implementing a $30-million plan towards placing seven wind turbines along the Cork Harbour’s entrance. Work on this project is scheduled to begin next week.
The wind turbines would be providing renewable energy sources for four key healthcare manufacturing firms, which have their base at the Ringaskiddy pharmaceutical hub.
The four companies, Novartis, DePuy, Centocor and GlaxoSmithKline are planning for building wind turbines on their sites that are dotted around this Ringaskiddy peninsula located at a distance of 18 km in the southeast direction of Cork City. The proposed wind energy project would reduce the operational costs for all the four companies.
The ultimate goal of these wind energy turbines is to decrease the overall carbon footprint of these four sites by around 30% which would be equivalent to 22,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide every year. Standing at a towering height of 78 m with its massive structure and with another 40 m as blade height further reaching out into the sky, the wind turbines would transform the Cork Harbour’s skyline.
