Colorado Awarded with $2.2 Million NEED Grants for Renewable Energy Projects

Colorado has received NEED (New Energy Economic Development) grants worth $2.2 million. Bill Ritter, the Governor of Colorado, has announced 23 grants towards developing energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for recipients across Colorado that will help in creating and retaining jobs as well as strengthening the local economies while saving money and energy.

The grants have been funded under the American Recovery and Investment Act, and will be benefiting nonprofits, school districts and communities. Projects thus funded will be strengthening the New Energy Economy of Colorado. These 23 grant projects will be leveraging in excess of $5 million under the private-public local matching funds meant for an overall investment of $7.8 million in Colorado communities.

The NEED grants have been awarded to Colorado towards projects that include a solar power installation in Denver towards affordable housing units, energy efficiency upgrades towards a non-profit preschool located in Gilpin County as well as a small project for hydroelectricity in Basalt town.
