Nippon Paper Proposes Plans for Biomass Generator

Nippon Paper Industries USA has proposed plans for a novel biomass generator. The new turbine generator and steam boiler will make Nippon Paper Industries more efficient and reduce air pollution by about 19% while generating energy from forest wastes to the extent of 20 MW capacity. This green energy project is worth $71 million and will be creating a number of jobs.

This cogeneration plant would be turning residue from its logging operations into power. The electricity thus generated would be sold off to potential customers such as Clallam Public Utility District. The plant would be generating renewable, clean electricity while improving the rural economy.

The biomass generator launch has been planned during mid-2012. Upon completion, half the power usage in the paper mill would be coming from biomass. The project is currently under an environmental permitting stage. Nippon Paper Industries’ project involves the shutting down of its existing boiler and subsequently replacing the same with this biomass boiler.
