Gortahile Wind Farm Sold to BNP

ABO Wind Ireland has sold the Gortahile Wind Farm located in Co Laois to a fund of BNP Paribas Clean Energy Partners. The farm comprises eight units of wind turbines each 90 meters high. The farm is capable of producing 70 GWh of electrical energy annually, sufficient to power 11,200 homes. Gortahile Wind Farm was built by ABO Wind.

So far, the fund has raised approximately €250 million, which includes commitments arising from institutional investors. The fund targets operational wind farms as well as farms under construction presently in Ireland.

The fund intends to raise €405 million and is interested in the generation of biomass power. ABO Wind has constructed a wind farm comprising 13 turbines in Glenough, Tipperary at an investment of €71 million. This farm is likely to be completed by the close of 2010. Furthermore, ABO Wind intends to install six units of 2.5-MW turbines at a farm located in Gibbet Hill, Waterford.
