Hedcor, Inc, owned by Aboitiz Power, has declared the construction of a run-of-river type power plant that uses the natural elevation drop of Bataan, Compostela Valley to produce 30 MW hydro power, to meet nearly half the power supply requirement of Davao del Norte Electric Co.(Daneco).
The company is in search of two other locations on the river running through Maragusan and Cateel towns to build similar projects to increase the power output requirement of the Davo power district where the company is struggling to meet the power requirements of Mindanao region. Currently the company receives a total of 70 MW from Hedcor’s Tamugan and Sibulan power generation plants fulfilling just one third of its 1.2 GW power supply requirement.
Gregorio P. Jabonillo, Vice President of Hedcor for Mindanao, has informed Arturo T. Uy, Governor of Compostela about the new project plans of the power utility to draw power from the Upper Agusan River in Tanedwan, New Baton. According to the plan the company will make an initial investment of P6 million for the proposed run-of-river plant. He added that the project will commence its constructions only after signing a prior purchase agreement with Daneco to purchase power produced by the plant. Earlier the company has signed similar accords with Davao Light and Power Co another company owned by Aboitz and Davao del Sur Electric Cooperative for it’s earlier constructed 42.5 MW power plants located in Sibulan, Davao del Sur. The local community that owns the Sibulan plant will receive P0.055 for every kilowatt-hour electricity produced and sold and will receive an annual earning of around P10 million. The company has promised to part with 1% of its project revenue towards community development.
