USIBC Solar Task Force Launched to Assist JNNSM of India

The USIBC (U.S.-India Business Council) has launched a major initiative for promoting trade and investment between the U.S. and India in the solar power sector.

The USIBC Solar Power Task Force, consisting of private companies, will help in bridging the aspirations of the United States towards exporting top-ranking technologies while furthering the Indian goal of achieving energy security by way of reducing the country’s dependence upon fossil fuels and imported coal.

The Solar Task Force is a part of USIBC’s EEE (Energy, Environment and Enterprise) Executive Committee consisting in excess of 100 members. The primary aim of this solar task force is for ensuring both technological and financial cooperation in a robust way between Indian and American firms.

In November 2009, the Indian Government announced the JNNSM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission) towards generating in excess of 20,000 MW of electricity by 2022. This breakthrough program attempts at mitigating the climate change impact while promoting energy security and rural development. The USIBC will be supporting the JNNSM by sharing policy best practices and regulatory practices with the Indian Government.
