TATA BP Solar India, a partnership of TATA Power and BP Solar, has commissioned a 1 MW solar power generation plant in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu, India.
The solar power generation facility was installed under the IREDA managed Rooftop and Other Small Solar Power Generation Plant scheme of the Central government initiated Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission (JNNSM). B&G Solar, which developed the solar project located at Komal West village, Mayiladuthurai in Tami Nadu also owns it. The solar project was completed in 150 days and commissioned in three months ahead of schedule.
The solar project located over an area of 5.5 acres incorporates 4,400 crystalline silicon solar modules of 230 W. The inverters installed at the location are designed to convert the DC current into AC to enable feeding the 11 kV power grid lines owned by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB). The solar power installation will produce around 1.49 million units of power every year. B&G Solar has contracted a power purchase agreement (PPA) with TNEB to trade the power generated from the facility for a period of 25 years.
TATA BP Solar has entered into an agreement with B&G Solar to provide operation and maintenance services for a period of 10 years from the date of commissioning. The plant is anticipated to function for a period of 25 years and the crystalline silicon modules utilized in the installation are anticipated to generate power with minimum level reduction in their power generation capability over the period of 25 years.
