EERC and Cummins Join Hands for Power Production from Biomass

The EERC (Energy & Environmental Research Center) belonging to the University of North Dakota, along with Cummins Power Generation, is in the process of developing a demo project meant for producing power and heat from biomasses with high-moisture content.

Cummins Power Generation, a global leader in the manufacture and design of power producing equipment, has made the supply of electrical generator towards this project, which has a capacity for producing electricity to the extent of 35 to 40 kW.

Operating on natural gas, the Cummins generator has been modified for running on syngas (synthetic natural gas) which has been produced by an advanced gasification unit developed by EERC. EERC’s gasification unit has the capability of converting various fuels into clean syngas. The technologies of EERC and Cummins can collaborate together as a combined power and heat technology based on gasification with several applications.
