Abengoa Solar Receives Approval to Construct Solar Thermal Plant

Abengoa Solar Inc, a unit of the Spanish company that is engaged in the development, construction and operation of solar power generating plants, has declared the receipt of formal approval from California Energy Commission for the construction of its proposed 250 MW solar thermal plant in San Bernardino County located east of Los Angeles.

The company is planning to start the construction of the plant by the end of this year to become eligible for receiving stimulus funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The plant is planning to deploy parabolic trough technology that uses mirrors to produce concentrated solar power to heat up the liquid kept for the purpose of  producing steam to run a steam turbine generator and produce electricity.

The company has signed an agreement with PG&E Corp a utility company to sell the clean energy produced by the plant.
