China to Invest in Hydro Power Generation in Kyrgyzstan

In a recently conducted press conference Osmonbek Artykbekov, Energy Minister of Kyrgyzstan said that China has expressed its willingness to invest around $200 million for constructing three hydroelectric power production facilities in Kyrgyzstan with capabilities to produce around 165 MW of hydro power. The power generation facilities will be constructed over Boom and Kemin rivers.

The minister further explained that the Chinese have expressed their willingness to join in all such hydro electric power production constructions of the country. The minister said that his country has enough financial potential to build such hydro-electric power stations without foreign investment and also said such financial allocation cannot be made from the national budget. However he clarified that such big constructions can be performed only with huge investments and the country has plans to create fiscal instruments to get money for such investments. He unveiled the plans of the country to create a separate development bank to draw in money for such types of subject related funds.
