A recent announcement by the Canadian Minister of Natural Resources, Honorable Christian Paradis, about the government’s decision to invest around $65 million in two wind farms located in the Gaspé region gave encouragement to the wind energy farms in Quebec.
The investment being a part of the ecoENERGY for Renewable Power program will be made in 10 years and support the L'Anse-à-Valleau and Carleton wind farms owned and operated by Cartier Wind Energy Inc. The L'Anse-à-Valleau wind farm produces around 100 MW of clean energy by utilizing its 67 wind turbines installed in the farm, while the Carleton wind farm utilizes its 73 turbines to generate 109.5 MW of clean energy. The electricity produced by both the farms is sufficient to light around 60,000 houses.
The ecoENERGY for Renewable Power program is a $1.5-billion initiative of the Canadian Government. The program offers an incentive of one cent per every kWh clean power produced to boost up the renewable power production capacity to 4,000 MW to provide clean electricity to million houses. The Economic Action Plan of the government works up on this program with an additional investment of $2.4 billion to support the growth and use of clean energy technologies and backing the infrastructure which includes Green Infrastructure Fund and Clean Energy Fund.
Minister Paradis, said that the government’s decision to help the Carleton and L'Anse-à-Valleau wind farms denotes the intention of the government to provide eco friendly renewable energy for the use of the people in Canada. He added that the clean energy project while providing renewable energy source for the eco friendly future of Quebec also offers job opportunities.
