Crompton Greaves Limited (CG) Holdings Belgium N.V., an auxiliary company of Crompton Greaves and a division of Avantha Group, has declared the successful completion of its Belwind offshore wind generation project’s installation.
The wind farm is situated about 50 km from the shore of Belgium in the North Sea. The company has completed the project in collaboration with two other companies.
CG took the responsibility of providing the required technology for the project and high voltage installations for power delivery, fixing of transformers and the final delivery connectivity to the ELIA power network. The company availed the services of Fabricom for managing the project, its construction with modular units and electrical works and used the services of Lemants for completing the installation of steel and mechanical structures. The Belwind Wind Park with a total power generation capacity of 330 MW is being built in two stages by utilizing 55 wind turbines in each stage. The project costing around 610 Mio EUR, will generate approximately 1.1 TWh of clean energy annually to provide electricity to 350,000 homes. To extend connectivity to the wind park’s first stage the company is planning to build a substation of 200 MVA 150/33 kV capacities over a monopile type of foundation. The company is planning to connect the 150 kV offshore substation with the 150 kV onshore booster substation by utilizing a submarine cable.
Gautam Thapar, Avantha Group’s Chairman and CEO, said that CG will utilize its technical know- how and innovation in the first-ever construction of an onshore booster transformer for an offshore wind farm. He expressed his happiness to be a partaker in the largest Belgian project.
