Portland General Electric Company, a Portland Oregon headquartered electric utility, has signed an initial accord with Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas) to chalk outthe terms on the buying of the Rock Creek Wind Farm’s development rights assets.
The accord will benefit PGE with special rights to buy the wind farm located in Gilliam County, Oregon by the end of the year 2010. The terms of the initial accord is anticipated to remain confidential till both the companies sign a conclusive agreement meeting the stipulated conditions.
The proposed RES wind farm to be located in the rented sites in eastern Oregon is awaiting permission from the state. The farm that is expected to occupy around 68,000 acres of land will produce 400 to 550 MW power. The construction of the wind farm is anticipated to begin during the early part of the year 2013 and the construction will be completed in phases to begin commercial power production either in 2014 or in 2015.
Jim Lobdell, Vice President of Power Operations and Resource Strategy in the company, said that the company requires adequate renewable energy resources to match the renewable energy standards set by the state. He added that the potent renewable power generating sites are always in demand and expressed his happiness in signing the initial accord with RES Americas and expressed his hope to reach a final agreement in the best interests of its customers in the following months.
