Renewable Energy Asia Group (REA), a Singapore based company, has announced the signing of a joint venture accord with China Datang Corporation Renewable Power for the development of a wind farm of 1.2 GW power production capability in a period of 10 years.
The signed accord includes constructing of biomass and hydro power generation projects with capabilities to produce 36 MW and 500 MW respectively in the Gansu Province of China. The required lands for the project and other substructures will be provided by the Jiuquan government of Gansu Province.
REA will initially construct a 100 MW power production demo plant along with a production plant to produce solar cell components to be utilized in the wind farm project. The signed contract will also require REA to invest in a manufacturing plant to manufacture nacelle casings, wheel hubs, wind turbine towers, foundations and connecting flanges that are needed by 2,000 wind turbines with 1.5 to 5 MW annual power production capabilities.
The renewable energy development in the region is an initiative of the Jiuquan government in the Gansu Province. The developments fall in conformity with the plans of the government to exploit renewable energy sources for the production of energy and to improve the technical know-how of the renewable power producing industry. The developments also form a part of the Chinese government sponsored National Development and Reform Commission’s five year plan to improve the clean energy efficiency and output of the country.
