Yamog to Build Micro-Hydro Power Plant in Philippines

The Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group has held the groundbreaking ceremony of its second micro hydroelectric power generation plant at Lake Sebu town in Philippines. The ceremony was attended by NGOs, foreign fund receiving institutions and government officials of Lake Sebu.

The 35 KW plant is being implemented by the Yamong group an NGO that will provide electricity to around 300 households in T’bolis a far off village in South Cotabato’s Lake Sebu town. The place of construction is located in a far off place that lies around 45 kilometers off from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) power grid connectivity. The power produced by the plant will also be used for extending electric lights to the schools in the locality and for the roads used by the community.

Nazario Cagayan, Yamog Renewable Energy Development Group’s Executive Director said that the building of the micro power generation plant is anticipated to be finished by December 2010. He added that the project will produce enough electric power to provide lighting to around 300 households to help them improve their education and to support the growth of the local economy. He added that the people living in the locality can use modern electric power systems such as TV and karaoke by utilizing the supplied power. Currently the people living in the localities use electricity produced by diesel powered generators, which works out to be costly and requires continuous maintenance
