Suzlon Energy Limited (SEL), a Pune-based wind turbine producing company, has received an order worth Rs.1149 crore from Techno Electric Group; a Kolkatta-based heavy engineering and construction company for building a 202.2 MW wind power project.
Techno Electric is a government recognized independent power producing company with more than 95 MW wind power generation projects in the states of Karnataka and Tamilnadu. All its wind farms are installed and managed by Suzlon.
The current order received by Suzlon includes 48 units of 2.1 MW wind turbine generators, 34 numbers of 1.5 MW generators and 24 units of 2.1 MW wind turbine generators. The new installations will be carried out in the state of Tamil Nadu. During its first phase of the project that is to be commissioned in June 2011 the company will install and commission around 101.4 MW of wind energy and in its second phase the company will complete the installation of 100.8 MW wind power generation during December 2011.
Tulsi R. Tanti, Suzlon Energy’s Chairman and Managing Director, said that the new order stands as a proof for the availability of such IPP funding in wind energy sector. He added that the IPP segment has the capacity to make such huge investments for increased wind power capabilities and his company is fully ready to meet the quick changes in the marketing environs to meet the growing client needs, technology changes and policy frame works of the government. P.P Gupta, Techno Electric and Engineering Company Limited’s Managing Director, expressed his optimism about the investment with the available income generating options such as generous feed in tariff, incentives based on power production, renewable energy certificates and possibilities of selling power utilizing the open access system. He added that his company has future plans to increase its power production to 500 MW.
