The installed capacity of wind energy throughout the world is all set for reaching the 200-GW mark by 2010 end, as per findings by the GWEC (Global Wind Energy Council).
This year alone has seen the addition of approximately 40 GW of novel capacity being added, thus making 2010 as the banner year on the world stage for wind power.
Though the wind market in the U.S. is anticipated to be slightly down with the effects caused by the global economic meltdown, however this will be offset by China’s strong growth while the European wind market stands rock-solid as ever. The GWEC is forecasting that the global wind energy would be doubling between today and 2014, primarily due to the steady markets prevalent in Europe, the U.S. and China.
GWEC also says that there are encouraging signs from the Latin American countries such as Chile, Mexico and Brazil along with the Northern as well as Sub-Saharan Africa. Globally, 1,000 GW of installed wind capacities are expected to be operating across the globe by 2020 and up to 2,300 GW by the year 2030. The GWEC, a representative forum at the international level for the wind power sector, aims at ensuring wind power to become a leading alternative energy source while providing substantial benefits for the economy as well as the environment.
