Teijin Produces Geen Carpet from Recycled PET Bottles for Tokyo International Film Festival

Teijin Limited announced today that for the third consecutive year it has produced an eco-friendly Green Carpet made of PET (polyethylene terephthalate) bottles, for the environmentally minded Tokyo International Film Festival, which will be held from October 23 to October 31.

The Green Carpet is made entirely of Teijin Fibers’ ECOPET(r) recycled polyester fiber produced from PET bottles. A 200m by 2.7m portion of the Green Carpet, actually three 90cm-wide carpets laid side by side, will stretch from Keyakizaka-dori, one of Tokyo’s most glamorous streets, to the Roppongi Hills shopping and event complex where the film festival will take place.

In total, Teijin produced 1,600m of 90cm-wide material, or the equivalent of some 23,000 recycled half-liter PET bottles. Other portions of the Green Carpet will be used in various locations around the festival venue. In addition, the Green Carpet material was used to produce reusable “Eco-bag” shopping bags for giveaway to festival guests and “Green Coasters” for giveaway to customers of Toei Subway as part of its promotional campaign.

Teijin also will provide a number of other items for the festival, including Green Ties, “Greenchief” handkerchiefs and Green Ribbons for guests, as well as jackets for festival staffers. These items were produced with eco-friendly ECO CIRCLETM FIBERS, which are chemically recycled fibers produced from used polyester products. Made with Teijin’s proprietary ECO CIRCLETM chemical-recycling system, the fibers offer quality equal to that of products made directly from petroleum.
