Two small sized wind turbines are slated for usage in the Hudson Valley Community College located in Malta, New York towards helping students in the area. Both these turbines have a power generation capacity of 5 kW and were funded by NYSERDA (New York State Energy Research and Development Authority) by way of a grant of $29,000.
These wind turbines have been supplied by the company Fortis Wind Energy US. The turbines will be used for teaching students in the college’s TEC-SMART (Training and Education Center for Semiconductor Manufacturing and Alternative and Renewable Technologies) educational facility. The college students will be learning about wind turbine designing, siting, modeling, as well as safe assembly.
These wind turbines located at TEC-SMART are visible reminders of the way in which Hudson Valley has been fostering a new type of career path for the residents of New York. Adjacent to the college’s TEC-SMART building, the wind turbines stand at a height of 120 feet upon their lattice towers at NYSERDA’s Saratoga Technology & Energy Park. Each wind turbine is anticipated to generate approximately 2,500 kWh of renewable electricity annually, an equivalent of 1% of the power supply for the building.
