California Plans to Achieve One Third Power from Renewable Energy Sources

The State of California is steadily moving on a pathway to grant consent for a number of solar farms during the year which in turn will more than double its solar power generation. Later on from August the state has approved four massive solar projects which include a 7,000 acre solar farm stated to be the biggest in the world.

Shortly, the California Energy Commission is expected to give consent for two more projects which includes a concentrated solar power production firm that utilizes mirrors to generate heat and produce electricity to power more than 675,000 homes.

The state, considered to be the biggest solar power producer, has enough sunshine to achieve its renewable energy targets. The state has devised plans to achieve one third of its electric power production from renewable energy sources by the year 2020. The state is also in the line of availing more stimulus funds that provide nearly 30% tax credit on investments and project costs which is slated to end by 31st December 2010. The federal Bureau of Land Management of the state has taken initiatives to clear five enormous solar projects to be located in Nevada and Arizona. Before the end of this year the energy commission of California is anticipated to give approval for nine solar farms with a capability to produce 4,300 MW of clean power. Currently more than a dozen solar and wind projects have made their applications for the project approval to beat the deadline of stimulus funds.

Michael Picker, Renewable Energy Advisor to Arnold Schwarzenegger, Governor of California, said that the state has made progress in renewable energy sources without compromising on its environmental securities.
