Satcon Technology Corporation, a supplier of utility scale solar power solutions, has declared the signing of a production agreement with GCL Solar Systems Limited, a utility level solar plant developer in China to increase the manufacturing capability of their 500 kilowatt (kW) PowerGate Plus line of solar PV inverters for use in Asia Pacific solar market.
The signed agreement requires GCL Solar to start a production facility in Nanjing Province China to manufacture more than 500 MW worth of 500 kW PowerGate Plus inverters by the year 2011. Satcon will be required to offer GCL Solar with the details of its production process and technology for the manufacture of PowerGate Plus for assembling at the solar plant of GCL. The agreement requires GCL Solar to purchase from Satcon the capability to manufacture a minimum of 300 MW every year from its Nanjing facility. GCL Solar needs to sell the PowerGate Plus 500 kW inverters produced at the Nanjing production facility in the Chinese market and to use it in its funded developments all over the world. The production from the Nanjing facility is anticipated to start by March 2011 and when this is aggregated with the augmented production operations at Burlington, Ontario will increase its annual production value to 2 GW.
Steve Rhoades, Satcon’s CEO, said that the two partnering companies have supplied their products to some of the most developed solar installations and each such installation demonstrates the system value the partnership can contribute to the utility level solar market. He added that the mix of GCL’s product design,building expertise and the advanced technology of his company helped them to offer superior level of dependability and system value to its clients. He concluded that the developed technological partnership with GCL will allow both the companies to efficiently tackle the growing demand for offering large scale solutions collectively.
