BrightSource Energy Joins Siemens in Purchasing Steam Turbine Generators

BrightSource Energy has joined Siemens in purchasing steam turbine generators. Towards this both these companies have signed contracts for using the generators in BrightSource’s Ivanpah Solar Electric Generating system.

Already, a steam turbine generator is operating at BrightSource’s Ivanpah Unit I. The current supply of two Siemens 133 MW steam turbine generators will be used in Ivanpah Unit II and Ivanpah Unit III. The purchase of these three steam turbines marks one more key milestone towards building one of the world’s top solar plants with maximum efficiency.

The combination of BrightSource Energy’s proprietary solar technology along with  world class components in power generation from Siemens serves as the ideal model for environmentally responsible, reliable as well as low-cost solar power generation. This 392 MW Ivanpah solar power project located in the San Bernardino County in California on completion will be generating enough clean energy for powering approximately 140,000 homes while also reducing the CO2 emissions by about 400,000 tons annually and will also be providing jobs for the local community.
