Duke Energy Commissions Top of the World Wind Power Project

The Top of the World wind power generation facility of Duke Energy Corporation located near Casper, Wyo is now commissioned to generate clean and renewable power. The 200 MW energy project with 110 wind turbines is sited in Converse County and has signed a 20 year agreement with PacifiCorp to sell its wind power.

The power produced from the Top of the World project is enough to meet the electric power requirements of nearly 60,000 homes.

The inclusion of Top of the World wind power generation facility has taken the total commercial wind production facility of Duke Energy to 935 MW. The company will complete its 1,000 MW mark when it commissions its 51 MW wind generation project of Kit Carson located in eastern Colorado. Since its inception in 2007 the company has spent over and above $1 billion to reach the current status in wind power generation business. The Top of the World wind project is the fourth and the biggest wind farm of the company in Wyoming. Earlier the company had completed its 99 MW Campbell Hill Windpower Project with the power project in Converse County in 2009. The other wind projects of the company such as its 42 MW Silver Sage project commissioned in 2009 and Happy Jack project with 29 MW power commissioned in 2008 are located near Cheyenne.

Keith Trent, the company’s Group Executive and President of Commercial Business, said that the company’s notable growth in commercial production of wind energy in the three years depicts its pledge to build a clean energy power generating business. He added that his company considers renewable energy projects as less risky and such projects will persist to dominate a major share of its business.
