Macy's to Achieve 70% Energy Efficiency on Completion of 3.5 MW installation by SunPower

SunPower Corp declared that the 3.5 MW solar power construction for Macy's, Inc located over the online fulfillment center in Goodyear, Ariz is progressing on schedule. The installation projected to be completed in March 2011 will become one of the largest solar power constructions to be installed over a single roof and will meet nearly 70% of the power requirements of the 600,000-square-foot building.

SunPower is installing its more powerful E19 solar panels for the Goodyear facility. The panels will be mounted over the rooftop utilizing SunPower rooftop know-how and its patented SunPower T5 solar roof tile system. The patented SunPower T5 Solar Roof Tile system incorporates a special technology and almost doubles the power generation per square meter when equated with other flat type of rooftop panels.

Macy's, Inc had entered into a partnership with SunPower in 2007 to complete the installation of solar power generating systems in all its 31 facilities. SunPower had recently completed a 1 MW power generation facility at one of Macy's retailer’s supply center located in the City of Industry California and the installed facility meets nearly 50% power requirement of the facility. The completion of the Goodyear system will allow Macy’s to produce a total 12 MW solar power production from all its installations. The energy credits linked with the solar power production will be purchased by Arizona Public Service, a local utility company providing services in Goodyear Calif.
