Southern California Edison (SCE), a power utility company, declared that it has commenced the construction of a public utility owned PV solar power plant at a site located in the San Joaquin Valley.
The building of the project will create around 125 job positions for the workers in Southern California. The power produced from the plant will be linked directly to the power distribution facility of the SCE in order to provide electric supply to the clients of the locality.
The proposed plant is to be set over an area of 32 acres of land owned by the city near the airport of Porterville California. The solar farm will host around 29,400 solar panels and produce over 6.7 million watt of electric power which will be enough to meet the peak power requirement of 4,300 average homes in the state. In addition to this plant SCE is also constructing plants at Fontana and Chino in California and in six other places within the state. The company has plans to install a total of 250 million watts of solar power in over 100 locations within the next five years. The company also has designs to initiate power purchase accords with independent solar power producers to an equal value of power generation. The solar program of the company is anticipated to generate over 1,200 jobs in the state.
The benefits offered by the company include offering of electric power at nearly half the rate of the small sized PV installations in the state of California with speedy connectivity features. The company introduces new power generation facilities where the demand from the customers is anticipated to increase. The company shares its gained experience and the effects of PV module penetration on power distribution circuits with peers in the industry.
