Chevron Energy Solutions, a division of Chevron, has entered into a contract with Huntington Beach City School District located in Orange County to build a 615 kW solar system for the school district. This project earned the name as the first ever solar project for an elementary school located in the school district. The groundbreaking ceremony of the project was performed recently.
Chevron Energy Solutions, which has designed the solar project to suit the requirement of the school will set up the required solar panels, control the function of the panels, up keep them and will ensure proper power production.. Further, Chevron has agreed to introduce energy competent developments in the school district by upgrading the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems (HVAC). The proposed energy competent betterments are anticipated to lessen the annual power consumption of the school district by 30% in addition to offering other gains such as improved building aesthetics and lighting quality, reduction in spending on annual maintenance and improved and steady indoor climatic conditions. The implementation of the project will allow the school district to save over $15 million in the life time usage of the project. The project anticipated to be completed by 2011 will cut down over 1,200 metric tons of CO2 discharges which are comparable to the removal of 250 cars plying on the roads or planting new trees over 270 acres of land.
Kathy Kessler, Huntington Beach City School District’s Superintendent, expressed pleasure in working along with Chevron Energy Solutions in a project that will lessen the spending on power and save on its operating expenses. He added that the energy savings will help the district to improve the infrastructure and will offer financial respite to the general fund of the school district.
