EDF Energies Nouvelles Completes Commissioning of Soma I Wind Farm

EDF Energies Nouvelles has declared the complete commissioning of Soma I wind farm situated in the northern Aegean region in the Manisa and Balýkesir provinces. This wind farm commissioned in parts incorporates a total of 88 wind turbines provided by Enercon.

The Soma I wind farm commissioned by EDF Energies Nouvelles is located in Turkey and has the capacity to generate 79.2 MW clean wind energy. EDF Energies owns 50% share of the wind farm and owns 39.6 MW power generated from the wind farm. The wind farm is developed and constructed by Polat Enerji, a Turkey-based company, in which EDF Energies Nouvelles owns 50% shares.

Currently EDF Energies Nouvelles has a gross power production capability of 128.2 MW and a net capability of 51.8 MW. The Soma I wind farm is one among the four largest wind farms currently functioning in Turkey. The completion of the project affords the company more opportunities to expand into the European market. The company in addition to its presence in wind and solar energy markets has also expanded to other renewable energy sectors such as marine energy, hydro power, biogas, biofuel and biomass.
