Independent Energy Solutions (IES), a solar energy developing and building company, made it known that it has signed a contract with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) to formulate and construct a 914 kW solar PV system.
The new system will be erected over the rooftop of the Chet Holifield Federal Building located in Laguna Niguel, California. The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and will be used as a case study project by GSA for its future solar project requirements.
According to George Gisel, Chief Operating Officer of IES, the project will be completed according to ARRA stipulations utilizing solar components made in the USA. The project will feature 3,808 silicon photovoltaic modules manufactured by Solarworld located in Camrillo, California. Advanced Energy PV Powered located in Oregon will supply the inverters required for the project and Sunlink, a Californian company, will provide the roof mounting systems required for the project. Gisel expressed his happiness to be associated with the project and said that the company will utilize the broad experience it has gained in designing and installing large scale solar projects for the utility companies and others in completing the project cost-efficiently and speedily.
On completion, the proposed solar project will generate around 1.4 million kWh of electric power every year which will be sufficient to provide electricity to 130 houses. The power produced from the facility will offset around 1.8 million pounds of carbon dioxide discharged every year which is equivalent to removing 800 cars from the road.
