Solar Trust to Develop Solar-Thermal Power Project in California

Solar Trust of America, a collaboration of Ferrostaal and Solar Millenium, will develop a 1000 MW solar-thermal power assignment near the city of Blythe located in Southern California. The US Government has granted an approval for the multi-billion dollar project to be developed.

The project, located in Riverside County, will be the primary parabolic trough solar plant on public land. The Blythe power project will cover an area of 7025 acres. Totally, four solar-thermal power facilities will be developed at Blythe and development of the project is anticipated to start by the end of 2010.

Ken Salazar, US Department’s Interior Secretary, stated that the power project is a key benchmark in the renewable energy economy of the country. Salazar added that the project shows that the country is willing to participate and lead the way in developing technologies of the future.
