The Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo) revealed that 30 MW power would be generated using wind power from February 2011.
According to Misikr Negash, EEPCo’s Communications Officer, the Ashegoda Wind Farm Project’s first phase, which is being built in Tigray State, is nearly complete. This project would be developed in three phases, and would ultimately lead to 120 MW electric power generation.
The second and the third phase of construction of the wind turbines are also in progress. The complete wind farm would need an outlay of €210 million . Ethiopia could generate 5,000 MW from geothermal energy, 10,000 MW from wind energy, and also 45,000 MW from water.
EEPCo handles not only power generation, but also transmission and sales of electricity throughout the country with more than 1,225,192 customers from 961 townships.
