The Vice President and General Manager of Taiwan Operations of STMicroelectronics, a major player in sustainable development and a provider of semiconductor solutions for efficient energy usage, Giuseppe Izzo will attend the 2010 Taipei Summit - PV Taiwan Forum to discuss the company’s recent developments in semiconductors for advanced photovoltaic applications.
Izzo stated that his company has delivered successful products in the energy efficiency segment. In the photovoltaic market, the company is focusing on solutions to optimise the energy harvested from photovoltaic panels and efficiency of energy conversion, he added.
STMicroelectronics has developed two new products, the SPV1001 and the SPV1020, to increase the effectiveness at both the solar cell level and the solar panel level. The SPV1001 is an intelligent switch designed by the company to improve the effectiveness of energy conversion at the level of the solar cell. The switch’s logic control circuitry is integrated with ultra-efficient power components, which reduce current seepage during the production of energy by the photovoltaic panel. The switch can also function at a minimum temperature and thus is highly reliable and has an extended lifetime.
The second product, the SPV1020 is a solar energy booster that harvests maximum energy from one solar panel, which in turn helps the improvement of overall effectiveness of a photovoltaic system. The product’s unique distribution pattern consists of several photovoltaic cells fastened using strings and are linked to individual converters, which are implanted in the backside of the panel. This pattern improves the efficiency of the panels compared to traditional patterns of the solar-power systems, where the power components are linked centrally to the primary converter box.
