Snyder's of Hanover Plans to Go Green with Ground-Based Solar Systems

Snyder's of Hanover, a snack food manufacturing company, has announced its intentions to build a solar farm with a ground-based solar system in a place spread over 20 acres in Pennsylvania. The solar farm with over 16,000 solar panels is expected to come over a field located across route 116 from its current production plant and headquarters.

The proposed solar farm when completed will lessen over 230 million pounds of greenhouse gas discharges in a period of 25 years. The energy produced from the farm can be equated to removing of a number of cars off the road to save fossil fuel that will be used to run over 111 million miles. The energy generated from the plant will reduce the level of carbon dioxide that can be equated to planting of over 11 million new trees.

Carl E. Lee, Jr, Snyder's of Hanover’s President and CEO explained the aspirations of the company to be an environment-friendly and green company. He added that the solar initiative is one among its other sustainability moves such as introducing biologically degradable packing for its products. He added that the initiative shown by the company states that it is obsessive about its products as well as the environment.
