Volvo Shoots for World's Fastest Hybrid Truck

Volvo Trucks are out to develop the world's fastest hybrid truck. The diesel and electric hybrid truck which has been nick named Mean Green is the forerunner for the title of the world's faster hybrid truck.

The hybrid truck will be raced for the standing kilometre which is the distance of 1,000 meters measured from the truck starting off from standstill. It will be raced by the Swedish truck racing professional Boije Ovebrink.

This is one race which has been won before it began as the Volvo Mean Green does not have any actual competition. The 16 litre Volvo engine has a peak output of 1,417 kilowatts. The electric motor of the truck has an output of 149 kilowatts.

In London the world's first hybrid commercial refuse truck has been tested in partnership with Veolia Environmental Services. There are six Volvo hybrid buses in use on the streets of London since 2009. It seems that the hybrid truck and bus has finally arrived.
