According to commercial counselor, Rudolf Lukavsky, Austria’s Renewable energy investments will increase, if authorized incentive programs are introduced. Austria has invested in Romania’s renewable energy projects, such as wind parks and hydro power, and is anticipating a rise in these investments.
Although the Austrian government is drawing out a workable law on renewable energy, it does not have a secondary legislation. Once the legislation is enacted, transparent incentive programs till the period of 2020 can be introduced. The move will help green energy investors to set up a standard business plan for their financiers.
On the other hand, Verbund, an Austrian-based firm, is launching a 200 MW wind power project. Biogest, yet another Austrian company, has planned to build a 3.5 MW biogas plant in Romania. ASA Romania, an industrial waste management firm, has planned to establish a waste-to-energy system.
In traditional power generation, Austria is undertaking a major development in Romania. OMV Petrom, oil and gas giant and the largest company in Romania, is launching a 45 MW wind project in Nicolae Balcescu and Tortomanu areas. The project is worth 100 million Euros.
To sum up, approximately 8% to 9% of electricity will be generated in Romania by OMV Petrom’s 860 MW installed capacity gas-fired power plant in Brazi, Prahova county, of which one-fifth of the electricity will go to OMV Petrom and the remaining will go to the national power grid.
