GE Energy declared that it has received a purchase order from Suncor Energy for the supply of 55 GE manufactured 1.6 MW wind turbines. The wind turbines are to be deployed in a wind power project located in the province of Alberta, Canada.
The Wintering Hills Project is one among the number of wind farms that are being constructed all over Canada incorporating the technical know-how of GE and the dependable wind turbine technology provided by it.
The GE 1.6 MW wind turbines incorporates a range of features such as blades measuring 82.5 meters for increased power production, better and easy management of wind turbines with reduced level of maintenance and repairs. The company has installed over 14,000 units of its 1.5 MW wind turbine. The Wintering Hills Project is situated closed to Drumheller, roughly 125 km northeast of Calgary. The wind turbines will be delivered at the site by GE in the early part of second quarter of 2011. The wind farm when reaching its maximum power production capability will provide electricity to around 35,000 houses in Canada.
Keith Triginer, the new country executive for GE Energy Canada, said that wind energy is one among the resources available in Alberta for the production of electric power. He added that his company is working in close association with Suncor and others involved in the project to make the wind farm as well as other renewable energy sources an inherent constituent of the total power supply of the province.
