The Dow Chemical Company declared that it has accomplished a record in its supply volumes of DOWTHERM A, a patented product of the company utilized in solar power production.
The company has met the requirements of around fourteen big Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plants with a total power production capability of over 700 MW and located at various places in the United States and Spain.
The Concentrating Solar Power (CSP) plants utilize parabolic mirrors to mirror and amplify the heat received from the sun over a sealed circulating loop filled with DOWTHERM A, a heat transfer fluid. The heat energy collected in the fluids is directed into a power engine to produce steam to run the turbines to produce electric power. The patented DOWTHERM A liquid has a unique feature to adapt temperature levels up to 400° C. The CSP technology is more useful in places that need an uninterrupted source of energy and can meet the peak hour power supply demand. Unlike other fossil fuel utilizing plants, CSP does not contaminate the outside air, instead improves the quality of the air thus allowing a number of countries to achieve carbon emission norms.
The power produced from the existing CSP plants can provide electricity to over 415,000 homes and reduce nearly 1.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide discharges every year. DOW as a leading CSP fluid manufacturer has plans to provide total services for its clients to sustain the market growth of its product. The company is planning to provide its innovative engineering proficiency with consistent supply of its high volume and high value products to even remote places.
