Edison Mission Group (EMG), an auxiliary company of Edison International, declared that Edison Mission Energy (EME), one of its subsidiaries, has commenced the building of the 30 MW Community Wind North project, located in the southwestern region of the state of Minnesota.
This project happens to be the 10th wind project of the company in the state. The company has entered in to a 20 year power purchase agreement with Northern States Power Company, a group company of Xcel Energy. The proposed wind projected is expected to get completed by the mid of 2011.
The Community Wind North project, which has obtained a funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), was jointly formulated by the Community Energy Developers Board, Lincoln County Enterprise Development, and Southwest Wind Consulting. The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission has already approved the power purchase agreement entered with Northern States Power Company. The Community Wind North wind farm, located in Lincoln County, will incorporate 12 numbers of 2.5 MW Clipper wind turbines, to generate enough power to meet the electricity requirements of around 10,000 houses. The project, which is expected to be completed with an investment of around $58 million, will offer around 30 construction jobs to the locals and will pay over $28 million towards local and state taxes and fees for a period of 20 years.
Ron Litzinger, EMG’s CEO, said that his company had started its first renewable energy business in the state of Minnesota around 10 years ago and is pleased to improve his company’s wind energy business range partnering with the local investors.
