The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) has awarded over $1 million to support eight new wind energy projects under the Commonwealth Wind Community-Scale Wind initiative. The awards comprise six feasibility research grants and two construction and design grants. The former projects total approximately 17 MW in capacity, while the latter totals more than 5 MW in capacity if constructed.
MassCEC's renewable energy generation division is instrumental in launching the new initiative. The division produces about $23 million per annum to support companies and renewable energy installations.
The grants will be given to public and private projects in towns and cities. The projects receiving the construction and design grants will be carried in Cohasset and Plymouth, while the other five wind projects receiving the feasibility awards will be done in Amesbury, Blandford, Petersham, Gloucester and Westport towns. The Springfield Water and Sewer Commission project will be carried in Granville, Tolland, Russell or Blandford.
A non-profit organization, Clean Energy States Alliance has awarded the, “a State Leader in Clean Energy” award to MassCEC's community-scale wind program. The organization works with state agencies to promote clean energy projects and technologies.
