Republic Services, a solid waste operating company, has entered into a renewable biomethane recovery accord with Clean Energy Fuels to treat the renewable gas retrieved from its landfill site located at Sauk Trail Hills, in Canton, Michigan and sell it.
The biomethane gas is a spin-off deduced from the decomposed landfill waste. When compared to the use of gasoline or diesel the generated gas is ecological friendly and brings down greenhouse gas emissions by 88%
Under the clauses of the accord, Clean Energy will construct a landfill gas treating plant with high level of BTU at the Republic's Sauk Trail Hills landfill site to generate renewable natural gas for sending it through a natural gas pipeline arrangement. The generated gas will be dispensed for use in vehicles owned by Republic, and to be used by its renewable power clients. The signed accord will enable Republic to utilize the generated gas in addition to the traditionally produced gas in its fleet of natural gas utilizing vehicles. The landfill gas facility when becomes fully functional will generate enough clean biomethane, which will be equivalent to the use of 6 million diesel gasoline per year. The plant is expected to commence its production in the early part of 2012.
The company has also signed accords with Clean Energy to construct, manage and sustain around 14 compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling stations for the company. The fuel filling stations will offer Republic liquefied natural gas (LNG) to its fleet of refuse vehicles in the state of California that utilize around 3 million gallons of LNG every year. The company has planned to utilize a part of the biomethane gas generated at the site to run its growing number of natural gas and solid waste dragging trucks. Clean energy is anticipated to deliver the biomethane product to its clients through its network of CNG fuel dispensing stations.
