Prudential Financial, a financial services company, declared that it has erected solar panels over its office building located in Scottsdale, Arizona, and has installed charging stations to power the electric cars to encourage its increased usage. While installing the solar panels the company has also completed a covered parking facility for its employees with additional charging facility.
Prudential has installed over 4,508 solar panels to produce a peak power output of 885 kW to meet nearly 30% of its total power requirement. To make the installation cost- effective the company has applied and received incentives provided by the Arizona Public Service’s Renewable Energy Incentive Program. The power generated by the installation can be equated to offsetting nearly1,051 metric tons of carbon dioxide discharges, or saving around 2,445 barrels of oil every year or taking off 225 cars from the road.
Michael Perrette, Prudential’s Vice President and Head of Corporate Facilities, said that by using solar panels, the company has reduced the levels of its carbon emissions to nearly one third during the last 10 years. He added that during the next decade the installation will allow the company to save millions of dollars spent on energy and will allow the company to lessen its total carbon footprint. He was optimistic about the demand and use of the solar powered charging stations in future.
