Sullivan Solar Power has announced the completion of a solar power installation for the Associated Students of San Diego State University’s Children’s Center in San Diego, California. The solar installation, while providing power to the center will also serve as a covered carport for the parking facility near the preschool facility and child care.
The 28,000 W solar power system installed at the university incorporates 144 SHARP solar panels manufactured in America and four numbers of SMA Sunny Boy inverters. The base structure for the solar installation over the carport was constructed by M Bar C Carports. The intricacy of construction over the carport increased the construction period of the project. The project was funded by voluntary contributions received from an authorized student body, which was formed to make clean energy promotions in seven campus buildings administered by it. The current initiative makes SDSU, a leading ecological friendly college campus in the country.
Tara Kelly, Sustainability Commissioner of Associated Students, said that the project will meet around 35% power requirement of the children’s center, and added that the installed facility will also provide the students a chance to learn about solar power generation. Grant Mack, President of the Student Body, while expressing excitement about the completion of the project said that the current project is one of the several projects they contrived to execute in course of time.
Daniel Sullivan, Sullivan Solar Power’s founder and president, appreciated the students for leading the clean energy cause by example. He added that with the current installation, the students have enabled the university with 200,000 W of clean energy which can reduce around 424,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
