Muthoot Pappachan Group to Augment Wind Power Generation Capacity

Muthoot Pappachan Group, a leading corporate house from India and engaged in developing wind farms in Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli Districts of Tamil Nadu, has announced its plans to develop its wind power generation capacity. The company has currently invested around Rs.125 crores in 25 MW wind power generating projects.

During the current year the company has invested Rs.26 crores and added a 4.50 MW power production capability. The company currently generates over 450 lakh units of wind electricity per year and sells the produced power to Tamil Nadu Electricity Board under a contracted power purchase agreement (PPA).

Thomas John Muthoot, Muthoot Pappachan Group’s Chairman and Managing Director, appreciated the efforts of the government in addressing the energy security issues adequately and for giving priority to energy independence. He added that his company has plans to double the wind power production capability by the end of 2012. The group is also viewing its options to enter into other clean power generation segments.
