United Solar Contracts with Winch Energy to Supply 6 MW UNI-SOLAR PV Modules

United Solar, a fully owned auxiliary company of Energy Conversion Devices and a producer of light-weight and flexible thin-film solar modules, is contracted by Winch Energy to supply 6 MW of UNI-SOLAR brand photovoltaic modules for its  proposed 9.7 MW solar projects development in Puglia region of Italy.

Most of the proposed projects will host UNI-SOLAR-manufactured solar PV modules, which are recognized for improved operational ratio in high closed level temperature conditions and more power generation for the kilowatt capability of the modules. The construction of the projects will be managed by Global Energy Services. The projects benefited from the feed-in-tariff structure of Italy are anticipated to be completed and linked to Italian grid in March 2011. The projects when become fully functional will assist to offset nearly 9,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year and to meet the power requirements of over 3,200 average houses.

Mark Morelli, who leads Energy Conversion Devices, the parent company of United Solar, as its President and CEO, said that the bigger sized multi-location projects depicts the ability of the company to provide advanced PV modules for international market segment. He added that as a leading rooftop solar modules manufacturing company, his company looks at the large-sized solar installations to improve their field experience and to deliver high volume of products. He was hopeful that his company’s association with Winch Energy will bring in positive environmental impact.
